Welcome!

Creating, Connecting and Providing resources for youth and families...

About Us:

December 6, 2008 our family suffered a huge loss…we lost Brandon Lee Brinkley to gun violence three days following his 25th birthday.  At that time, he was pursuing a career in barbering and had planned to become a entrepreneur who would one day own a barbershop.  He was excited to talk about his future plans and started cutting hair in the family residence.  Because of this unfortunate tragedy, his mother and very supportive family members, friends, and supporters agreed to host a bowling fundraiser to raise funds to cover scholarship award fees and associated fees .

We will continue to remember Brandon’s dream by recognizing and awarding future barbering and cosmetology students who obtain his or her certification.  Students compete for awards by submitting an essay, technological or video presentation surrounding gun violence topics annually.  BLBF have  awarded scholarships since December 2011 with the initial awards being presented to two students graduating from The American Beauty Academy school where Brandon was enrolled at the time of his death.   Two-thousand seventeen, BLBF birthed another scholarship program which included college-bound students furthering their education.

  1. To date, we have awarded benefactors attending Delaware schools the Brandon Lee Brinkley Scholarship Award.

  2. We have provided one scholarship fee for a youth to benefit developmental skills at summer camp.

  3. May 19, 2018 marks a first at the Boys and Girls Club presenting, " Welcome to “The Wonderful World of Hair Creations,”  looking to inspire youth to consider entering this trade professionally and offering tips about basic hair care.

  4. June 11, 2016, we provided a “hairdo day” for immediate families who lost a loved one to violence.

  5. We will continue the pathway of reaching a multitude of youth and families.

Lastly, Christiana Care Health System, Trauma Department, Violence Prevention presents “You Only Live Once” which reenacts emergency procedures performed on Brandon and prior to  our losing him in surgery.  Targeted audience is youth aged 13 - 24.  Contact:  Chaz Molins, LCSW, Email: cmolins@christianacare.org or 302.733.4996.
